200 WOG vs. 400 WOG top |
| ? | I have a valve stamped 200 WOG and another stamped 400 WOG. What is the difference? |
| A | Spencer, The number in front of the WOG designation is the rated maximum system pressure for that product. 200 WOG is 200 PSI for Water/Oil/Gas - 400 WOG is 400 PSI for Water/Oil/Gas. 125 WSP is 125 PSI for Water Steam Pressure. Etc. Thank you for your question. |

Accommodating a sweat ball valve top |
| ? | I plan to install a 5070 EzGrip valve on an existing one-half inch copper water line. How much of the existing copper line must be removed to accommodate the valve body? I measure the valve to be 2.42 inches in total length with a 0.8 inch depth to the ball on each side. As I calculate it that leaves a 0.92 inch gap (2.52 - (2 X 0.8)) required to accommodate the valve in the existing line. Is that correct? |
| A | Mr. Gleissner, I would suggest that you take a look at the spec. sheet at: http://www.redwhitevalveusa.com/pdfs/5070%20spec%20sheet.pdf I see that there may be a difference in the length. Please let me know how your install went. |

Frozen Swing Check Valve top |
| ? | Hi:
I have one of your R-W 125 check valves installed in the 2" discharge line of a sump pump (the 125 is similar to your latest model 247). I believe it is either stuck closed or blocked (the valve is no longer under warranty). Two questions:
(1) If I could open the top cap I could look down inside I could determine whether it's swinging freely. However, the top cap won't open even with a socket and 3-foot breaker bar (must be applying over ~80 foot pounds of torque!). Is is supposed to unscrew and is it a regular RH thread? (2) Re the plug screw that's in line with the hanger pin -- does this serve any purpose such as a grease point to lubricate the pin?
Many thanks!!
John P. |
| A | Mr. Perkins, The assumption would be that there are or could be a couple of things going on. The most logical is that as you suspect, the swing check has become corroded and has blocked the disc from motion. Another scenario could be that blockage on the downstream of the disc has blocked the motion of the disc and also restricting the ability of the cap to be removed. If as you say the valve is similar to the 247, this would be a soldered valve and may need to be removed for maintenance. The pin on the side of the valve holds the disc in place. This should not be removed unless you have access through the removed cap. If you have not done so already, you can go to the website and download the spec sheet for the 247 to see how they are assembled and operate. Please let me know if I can assist with any further questions. |

Gasoline in Brass Valves top |
| ? | Is the 5044-F 3 inch ball valve satisfactory for use with liquefied petroleum gas up to 200 psi at 40-100 degrees F? What 3/4 inch and 1/4 inch ball valves would also be satisfactory for this use? I asked this question 12-19-08 but received no response. |
| A | Mr. Fontaine:
Gasoline (liquified petroleum) is compatible with the standard Red-White Ball Valves. We do not have any Petroleum Certification for these items. The materials that would be in contact with this media are all compatible. Brass/Bronze and/or PTFE (seats). The temperature limits are all within the operation of the materials in the valves. Please let me know if you have any further questions. |

How do I take apart my gate valve? top |
| ? | how do I take apart the RWV 206 |
| A | Ron, We do not recommend that the valve be dis-assembled as this will void any warranty. If there is a failure, please return the valve to your Red-White representative and request an evaluation if you suspect there is a product failure. |

Max Testing Pressure of valves top |
| ? | using the valves for water, i need to know the highest pressure for testing instalation |
| A | Is this for residential? All of our valves have a maximum pressure listed. Please check your spec sheet on the website to determine what is acceptable. Please note that surge and water hammer conditions can occur in systems and may create pressure spikes in your system. Caution should be considered if quick closing valves are present. |

Natural and Propane Gas use. top |
| ? | How do I know if I can use a Red And White Ball Valve for Natural Gas, and up to 60 psi.? |
| A | David, The 5000 series valves are designed for use with LPG and Natural gas service. The pressure limits are all set at 175 PSI. These should satisfy the need for 60 PSI service. Please contact us if you have any further questions |

Older valves top |

Open or Closed? top |
| ? | I have a Fig 276 Gate valve on a H/W line inbetween to water heaters (the line seems to join the two hot water output side of the water heaters). The hand wheel was turned all the way left/counter clockwise. Which way (left or right) opens the valve? And I know this is a loaded question, any idea which poistion it should be in. It take H/W a very long time to get to parts of the house since some significant plumbing work was done.
Thanks. |
| A | Mr. Miller: The old phrase, "righty-tighty", "lefty-loosey" applies here. I'm not quite certain why or how you have two hot water heaters in the same location, but with regard to the operation of the valve, opening the valve would be to the "LEFT" (or counter clockwise). Clockwise will (should) shut the valve. If for some reason, the disc has failed from over-tightening, the valve could be in the closed (or near closed) position and will not operate properly. It would be best to have a professional check the operation of the valve. Thank you for your question. |

| ? | We have a fig. 207A class 125 1" gate valve that has a broken stem / disc connection. This valve was installed around 1985. Is it possible to get replacement internal parts? Thanks, Fred |
| A | Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, Red-White Valve Corp. does not have replacement parts available for these items. Although we do have the same valves available, there are slight differences in the machining of these parts and it would be difficult to produce a perfect fit. It would be beneficial for you to replace the entire valve to ensure a proper seal. Thank you again for your question. |

Spring Check Valve Back Pressure top |
| ? | What is the pressure required to open a spring loaded check valve, model 233? What is the pressure drop for a 3/4" model 233 at 3 gpm? |
| A | Only slight positive head pressure will open this valve. This is not designed to restrict flow (although this will on greater flow rates) this is designed to close on down-stream back pressure. Very little pressure (<1 PSI) will open the valve. |

Water or Gas Valve? top |
| ? | Hello -
I took on a small DIY project and picked up a 5044F ball valve in the plumbing aisle at my local Home Depot. After installing the valve on the cold WATER, I realized that the label stated approved for gas lines. Is this an issue? Should I remove the valve and replace with another.
Thank you,
Tyler Barnes |
| A | Tyler,
You have bought a valve is excellent in cold or hot water service. It is also gas rated which means it can be used on natural gas lines within your home. The valve is rated at 600 WOG which means water, oil, gas so it is a multi purpose valve for any of those services. Your application of cold water is fine for this product.
Thank you. |

WOG top |
| ? | What does "WOG" Stand for? |
| A | WOG stands for water, oil and gas (gaseous mixes) It does not refer to gasoline, natural gas or propane. |
| |
WSP top |
| ? | Whtas does "WSP" mean? |
| A | WSP stands for: Working Steam Pressure. As used on Red-White Valve Corp. valves, this rating indicates the maximum (non-shock) steam pressure of a valve body per MSS-SP-80 and SP-110. All joints (other than threaded) may limit this pressure due to their materials or designs. |

Y Swing Check Failures top |
| ? | I have a customer who has a large water ram pump and he has a y swing check installed above the pump. He is going through about one a month, because they cannot handle the pressure. We carry the 236 y swing checks; do have something that will handle more pressure that would last longer for him? |
| A | It may be necessary for you to install a surge device in your line, downstream of your check valve. This will allow you to absorb both the pumps discharge pressure as it starts and also the weight of the fluid after the pump stops. The weight of the fluid falling back towards the pump can create a hammer condition that will shorten the life of the swing check valve. |
