Radiator valves are an essential component of any central heating system, allowing you to control the flow of hot water or steam through your radiators, which in turn controls the amount of heat that is emitted from the radiator. There are several different types of radiator valves available, each with its own unique features and benefits. The right type of radiator valve can help you to save energy and money on your heating bills, while also ensuring that your home or facility is always comfortable.

With precision machining and patented technology, RED-WHITE VALVE CORP. has manufactured high-quality valves since 1971. Our extensive product line includes ball, butterfly, plumbing, strainer, and radiator valves, among others.

Radiator Valves Explained

Radiator valves play an important role in your central heating system. This valve regulates the amount of hot water or steam that goes into the radiator, and the other controls the level of heat.

When the knob opened or closed, the valve allows more or less hot water or steam to flow through the radiator. This in turn controls the amount of heat that is emitted from the radiator and allows you to adjust the temperature of each room in your home.

The thermostat is responsible for measuring the heat in a particular location, and ensuring the boiler is running until your desired temperature is reached. However, If you’re not using a particular room, you have the option to turn the radiator valves off in that room while still heating the rest of your home, as measured by your thermostat. This functionality allows you to reduce energy consumption and costs for unused rooms.

Shapes of Radiator Valves

The valve shape you choose will depend largely on the type of radiator you have. Not all valves work with all radiators.

  • Angled Radiator Valves: These are ideal for pipes that connect to the radiator at a 90-degree angle. These are a popular choice in homes where the pipes are under the floor, or in the rare case you have a radiator with underside inlets.
  • Straight Radiator Valves: Straight valves must connect horizontally or vertically from the pipes to the radiator. That means they’re used on radiators with side inlets and pipes that run exposed along the wall as well as radiators with underside inlets and pipes that come out of the wall.
  • Corner Radiator Valves: These are used with pipes that come out of the wall for radiators with side or underside inlets. They’re more decorative than their angled counterparts, as they sit on the inside of the angle rather than the outside.

Manual Radiator Valves

Manual radiator valves are operated manually by turning a knob or lever to control the flow of hot water or steam through the valve. They do not have any automatic sensors or thermostats, so they do not respond to changes in room temperature. They offer a basic level of temperature control, but they require manual adjustment to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room.

Manual valves usually come with a simple dial to adjust the valve from fully open to fully closed, depending on how much heat you want in the room. They are a great option for those who are looking for a basic level of temperature control without the added cost of more advanced, automated valves; however, they tend to be less energy efficient.
